This video will show you how to use a service provided by Google called Google Drive in order to host and share files over the internet for free. This service provides users with 5 GB of cloud storage space for free, with an individual file size limitation of 10 GB (5 GB for free users). Google Drive currently seems to be the best choice for free cloud storage file hosting and file sharing on the web due to the following benefits:

1) Uploaded files do not expire due to time passing by or due to file or account inactivity
2) There is no bandwidth limitation on the amount of data transfer or amount of times the file can be accessed or downloaded per month
3) Files can be uploaded through a webpage interface and downloaded through a webpage interface (no client software needed)
4) Files can be set to be downloaded by anonymous guest users using a web link (no need for downloaders to create account logins and sign-in)

It should be noted that files can also be set to be completely private (only accessible by the Google Drive owner) or can be set so that only specific users with the proper credentials can obtain said files.

With the shutting down of MegaUpload and the restructuring of Minus to only host images (photos, pictures), Google Drive seems to give me everything that I need in a file hosting and sharing solution.

  1. @Ana Fabiola González Cirávolo Sadly you lost me a long time ago (that's why I just upload videos to YouTube…takes the technicalities out of it). Nonetheless, I'm sure there are some codejunkies out there who can help you out with this. If anyone can help Ana out, please let us know, and Ana, I'm sure a Google search for some of these terms (such as: google drive js css wordpress call functions.php) will bring up a discussion forum where others with more knowledge in this respect can give you a better answer. Good luck : )

  2. Hi Great tutorial, I'm no expert, but I want to use google drive to speed up loading the js and css files in my wordpress site. I have my own domain and I manage the files through the cpanel and ftp. I know how to set about google console development. So, if I upload the js and css folders to google drive, how  I make the call from the functions.php file? Thank you for your help.
