If you’re looking to register a domain name, Namecheap is your best option when compared to GoDaddy. Their registration cost and renewal rate is lower the GoDaddy. You also get free WHOIS privacy protection with Namecheap where GoDaddy charges you extra for that.

What areas do I think GoDaddy is better? If you need hosting or a website builder for e-commerce then GoDaddy is the better choice. But for domains, GoDaddy is just too expensive.

  1. I had some negative experience signing up with namecheap. Sign up online was not that bad then I get some contradicting email instructions. I got on live chat to make sure that I did all I needed to do to finalize the domain name purchase. A week later they called me asking for the credit card number I used. When I said I didn't have the number with me, they locked my account and emailed me saying if I didn't respond they will cancel my order. There were some language barrier on live chat as well. That was just buying a domain name. I cannot imagine what kind of trouble ahead for hosting. Good luck.

  2. First year at Namecheap I paid like 20$ now I have to pay 60$ for the same services (29$ just to renew my domain). Can someone explain why the price jump?

  3. Don’t deal with Namecheap. Through the use of Bitcoin and WhoisGuard criminals and spammers can hide behind this secrecy for illegal purposes. Also, reviews suggest that they do not act when people report and bring these abuses to their attention.

I have complained about a phishing site which is hiding behind their protection and they refuse to act. Innocent families are getting ripped-off big time. Richard Kirkendall the CEO should be ashamed of himself!

  5. Does namecheap still provides who is protection for free?
Can i buy domain from Name cheap and hosting from Bluehost?
Where do i have to upgrade it every year? On bluehost or namecheap?
Does Bluehost charge any money to add the domain i bought from name cheap?

  6. I'm thinking of transferring my domain from GoDaddy to Namecheap. I like how GoDaddy has an option for GMail, Amazon, & Facebook login and 2 factor authentication. When I visited Namecheap I only saw one option to login. Do they have 2 factor authentication as well?

  7. Is hosting on namecheap is better or on siteground? … Majority of people recommend siteground for hosting and namecheap for domains. But namecheap hosting plans are really attractive. Can you guide me which one should I choose for hosting ?

  8. I did a test with blue host and got hammered with fees and I'd have to pay a lot of money. Name cheap has no hidden fees and like you said the protection thing is free.

  9. Thanks! This literally helped soooo much in deciding…I have always bought and kept my domains at GoDaddy but they have definitely risen in price over the yrs with renewal rates and discontinued services like free email…..so NameCheap it is!!!
